The Advances series

Advances is a series of papers that aims to review and discuss the most recent research and thinking related to aesthetic cellular rejuvenation.

In Advances 1, the latest understanding in terms of the anatomical histological and physiologic processes that underpin skin ageing is reviewed. Innovative techniques that are enhancing our understanding of the ageing process and new therapies that seek to explain the ageing response are referred to.

Advances 1

Advances 2 is the second in the series and aims to review and discuss current practice and recent advances relating to aesthetic cellular rejuvenation. In this paper, the way in which cells are grown for aesthetic medicine applications is described. The steps taken by manufacturers to ensure their products reach the patient in prime condition and key elements of the Directives, Laws and Guidelines relating to the way such organisations are required to operate are reviewed.

Advances 2

Advances 3 looks at the role played by fibroblasts and the extra-cellular matrix in the context of wound healing and their application in aesthetic medicine.  The current spectrum of products is reviewed and we look to the future to see how they might evolve.  We see also that tissue engineering has already delivered tangible results in the treatment of a number of dermatological conditions.
